What do I need?

Unless you know all rules and engineering requirements for drilling a water well, you need a licensed driller. Improperly completed wells can be closed up at the owners expense, and the owner can be fined.

Where can I find licensed drillers?

For an Exempt well

A registration form

For a non-Exempt well

  • If existing well: registration
    If new well: well construction application
  • meter (reading must be logged monthly, and log must be kept by owner for inspection)
  • Static water level (swl) sensor
  • Operating permit
  • Annual use report

Exempt wells

  • Exempt from permitting requirements
  • Requires a one time well registration
  • Domestic/household/livestock Consumption
  • Can water yard, not field
  • Well can not be equipped to pump more than25,000 gallons per day
  • Can be used to fill stock tank, but water filled can not be used for irrigation or other non-exempt use

non-Exempt wells

  • Not exempt from permitting requirements
  • Irrigation/Municipal/Industrial
  • Requires well construction application
  • Requires a flow meter
  • Requires an operating permit to pump
  • Non-exempt Trinity and Carrizo-Wilcox wells are required to have a static water level (SWL) sensor
